The Interfaith Opportunities Network (ION) continues to work toward greater understanding among faith groups. Check out our ION website to learn more.
The November 20, 2018 Interfaith Thanksgiving service was hosted by South Congregational Church. It was a wonderful, well-attended service with music from the choir and a variety of messages offered by members of our congregation as well as from many interfaith leaders. The reception following offered a time for people to met and share conversations.
We have expanded our membership beyond the Abrahamic religions and now have rotating members of the Peace Pagoda joining us. Each member expands our understanding and appreciation of diversity.
ION was one of many sponsors of the extremely successful fundraiser held at Wesley Methodist Church in November of 2017. This event raised close to $40,000 that allowed the Mosque to repave the parking lot allowing them to open the mosque for services in Spring 2018.
A number of South Church members attended the open house on September 30, 2018 as we were warmly welcomed with a “walk around,” food and fellowship, and the opportunity to watch and learn during their evening prayers. We are all welcome to attend a Friday evening service but calling ahead to let them know that you are coming makes the visit more meaningful as you will be met at the door and given a chair or pillow during the prayers.
ION held their first meeting in the Hampshire Mosque in December, 2018. Interfaith understanding is more important than ever. When we meet and share services with one another, barriers and misconceptions melt away.
