South Church is an open, inclusive, and welcoming church community. Whoever you are and wherever you are life’s journey, you are welcome to attend and participate fully in our weekly worship services!

Below you will find answers to some frequently asked questions about our worship services:

Where is South Church?

South Church Amherst is located at 1066 S. East Street in Amherst, MA.

What time is worship?

Worship usually begins every Sunday at 10am.

You may want to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to find a parking space, take your kids to the nursery if you’d like, and find a seat in the sanctuary.

How should I dress for worship?

There is no dress code at South Church Amherst. Wear whatever makes you comfortable. On any given Sunday, you’ll see people sporting styles ranging from suits to shorts.

Will I be welcome?

Yes! We are an open and affirming church congregation that celebrates God’s children in all their diversity.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

What are your worship services like?

Our worship services are traditional in style and include elements of music, scripture, and prayer.

When you arrive, you will be greeted at the door and invited upstairs into our sanctuary, which can be reached by stairs or elevator. When you reach the sanctuary, an usher will offer you a Sunday bulletin, which has the order that we will follow for worship that day.

Find a seat, anywhere you like and make yourself comfortable. You will also find a card in the back of the pew to fill out if you would like us to be in touch with you.

What programs are available for my children?

Children begin the service in the pews with their families. Early in the service, all of the children are invited to come forward for a special children’s message. Parents are welcome to come forward with their children if that makes them more comfortable.

Children may then join Sunday School in the 2nd-floor classrooms.

Parents are encouraged, if they would like, to take their children to Sunday School, and then return to worship once they are settled. Children are welcome to remain in the service if they are not ready to attend a group.

We offer childcare for infants and toddlers in our nursery located on the second floor of our building.

Can I take communion?

Communion is open to all who attend services, including children. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of each month and during special services throughout the year.

What happens when the worship is over?

The pastor will be at the front door to shake hands as you exit. Both the pastor and our congregation would love to meet you after worship. Everyone is invited for refreshments during Fellowship Hour in the Kenseth room after the service.

This is also a good moment to speak with a member of the Family Ministries team to learn about Sunday School and many other activities.
